Summer camp

What?

This is SAGGA's annual national camp, where service work is mixed with free time. It's a chance to meet and make new friends, catch up with old ones and explore a new place.

When and where?

Camp usually lasts 9 to 14 days during the summer, but people attend when they can, whether for a couple of days or the whole event. It's held at a different Scout or Guide campsite each year, and sometimes overseas.

Who for?

Everyone from SAGGA babies to SAGGA saga! Numbers vary each year, but there are normally around 100 people who attend at some point during the camp.

Why come along?

•  You can help undertake practical or educational service work, such as construction, painting, designing a nature trail. the list is endless and varies from site to site.

•  It's a good chance to meet SAGGA members and enjoy a wide variety of social activities. In the past, we have challenged each other to giant Jenga in the dark, played whole-camp rounders and held campfires.

•  Every other day the work stops and members can choose how they spend the time. We've had trips to the beach, been shopping, visited local museums and taken the children to the zoo.

•  Catering at camp is done by a different duty patrol each day: everyone gets a go at cooking dinner for 100 people and maintaining a clean campsite. Don't panic though - you don't have to do all the washing up!

•  Summer camp is a very flexible event - you can do as much or as little as you like and you have the chance to try new activities and learn new skills.
