SAGGA
SAGGA is a national association providing skilled service to Scouting and Guiding. Started in 1957 as the Scout and Guide Graduate Association by a group of former student Scouts and Guides, SAGGA now has over 250 members, both in the UK and overseas.
SAGGA provides a framework for its members to support the aims of the Scout and Guide Associations. This framework lets them choose what to do: building up skills and experiences, trying something new, joining activities such as camping, winter walking, sailing and crafts.
SAGGA meets at national level for events such as summer camp and the AGM, and also in smaller groups. Groups decide their own programme, so a wide range of activities take place each year throught the country and members are welcome to join any of these activities.
SAGGA's Aims
SAGGA's aims are:
- To provide service to the Scout and Guide Movements.
- To enable its members to use their skills in giving service.
- To promote Scout and Guide co-operation.
- To maintain communication between SAGGA and other related organisations.
- To encourage equal opportunities in the Scout and Guide Movements.
SAGGA’s framework
SAGGA’s wide range of members use its framework to support the aims
of the Scout and Guide Associations. The framework allows members to:
- Participate as much or as little as they want.
- Maintain friendships and make new ones.
- Use, develop and gain skills.
- Take part in their choice of social and service activities.
- Initiate new activities and projects.
SAGGA operates at both national and regional levels and is a registered charity.
Membership is open to adults who wish to be of service to Scouting and Guiding, whether or not they have made the Scout or Guide promise. Most SAGGA events welcome both individuals and families, although some are aimed at a particular age group.
Information and resources
SAGGA members receive a quarterly newsletter called News and Ideas, which contains information about past and future events, and keeps members aware of changes in the Movements. Each group has its own email list to keep in contact with its members as well as a section in the website.
International
SAGGA
has developed many overseas links, and has members who live or work abroad.
Summer camps have been held at Scout/Guide sites in Norway, the Netherlands,
Germany and Ireland, exploring the local area and carrying out practical
work at the campsite.
